3 Unexpected Truths About Student Behavior

🤔 Behavior Got You Feeling Baffled? 🤔

Have you ever had a student that you just couldn't figure out, Reader? Keep reading!

The first thing you need to know is that all behavior is COMMUNICATION 📢

When students engage in behaviors of concern, they are trying to tell us that they have a need that is not being met, and they are getting that need met in the only way that they know how.

So how can we help students get their needs met in more appropriate ways?

Here are 3 unexpected ways you can meet your students needs in the classroom:

  1. Students are more likely to stay regulated when they have clear boundaries. Meet their need for safety by setting and following through with clear and consistent behavior expectations.
  2. Students are more likely to be successful when when they have a way to ask for a break. Meet their need for autonomy by teaching them how to ask for and take a break when they need it.
  3. Students are more likely to be engaged when they feel listened to. Meet their need for attention by scheduling some intentional one-on-one time with that student who could use a little extra love.

Do any of these surprise you??
