When you're advocating for inclusion on behalf of your student?

📝 Steal my script for a successful conversation about increasing the amount of time a student participates in the general education setting!

  1. "Let's look at the data". When advocating for a student to be included in the general education setting, bring relevant data and keep the conversation objective.
  2. "Their strengths are...". Focus on what the student CAN do and what their strengths are. This can be a great place to start when looking for what part of the day a student will be the most successful in the general education setting.
  3. "Their needs include...". Be honest about their needs so that they receive the appropriate amount of support and can thrive in the general education setting.

BONUS - "What do YOU need?". Ask the adults who will be supporting the student in the general education setting what they may need to feel capable and confident during this transition.
